Kiernan Pazdar lives in Millbrook, NY and maintains her studio in Pine Plains, NY. She earned her MFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2020 and has exhibited her work at 1969 Gallery, Abigail Ogilvy Gallery, Baker Hall, Field Projects, The Wassaic Project, NHAI Sharon Art Center, The Atwater Gallery, The Rhode Island School of Design Museum,Warner Gallery and Woods Gerry Gallery. Her work is also included in the permanent collection of the Rhode Island School of Design Museum and the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
In the early stages of her career, Pazdar worked as a textile designer creating interior prints and wovens as well as fast fashion products. She continues to draw on her knowledge of production, craft, color design, histories of labor, women’s work, and beauty developed during this time an throughout her undergraduate degree (RISD BFA Textiles 2014) in her paintings. She frequently examines themes of love, inherited expectations of women, a search for purpose under capitalism, consumerism, and femininity’s joys and pitfalls. She works intuitively, responding to her marks and surroundings, and aims to embed the emotional experience of making the work into the images she creates. Ultimately, her art practice offers her a place to reflect on her anxieties and desires as a millennial woman from New England coming of age and becoming a mother amid economic uncertainty, climate change, and rapid technological change.
Alongside her studio practice, Kiernan is deeply committed to teaching. She works as a Visual Art instructor at the Millbrook school teaching painting, drawing, 2-d, mixed media and honors art to high school students. Her undergraduate-level teaching experience includes painting, silkscreen, drawing, art theory/history and introduction to textiles at the Rhode Island School of Design.
